Expect plenty of MLB rumors about Chicago Cubs shopping Willson Contreras to any of these five favorites to land him.

Willson Contreras is one of many Chicago Cubs players who should be shopping for this year’s trade deadline and fronting many of the MLB rumors this summer. His chances are greater than most of his teammates. Like catcherIt could easily be the best option available for teams to capture by the deadline and improve the situation offensively, defensively, or both. Also just a rental, it’s a filter that any team can use to connect temporarily behind the board or even give some starts like DH.

The cubs hunter will have many suitors for a long time. Some of the best ones may not be known yet. One wrong tip can change a team’s need in a second.

Which teams should we suspect of having their organization linked to future MLB rumors involving Contreras? These five seem like early favorites.

5) MLB rumors: Houston Astros could see need to bolster their attack with Wilson Contreras

The striking duo of Martin Maldonado and Jason Castro is one of a kind. Both playing at the age of 35, they are basically the same player but they hit from different sides of the board. Maldonado is the good while Castro is the poor. Each has a good relationship with the Houston Astros. This year neither of them hit all that much.

Both work well as a backup or part of a platoon with a man who can rake. Together, it’s an odd pairing on a team as good as the Astros.

The Astros entered the year with crimes committed by their poachers. If they change their mind, the Contreras deal could give them an extra boost.

An injury to either catcher makes the move more obvious for Houston. Because they will have to DFA one of them, there is already a barrier in place. Houston could always turn one of these Hunters into a team that needed an upgrade to act as a prop. Just because it might require another transaction doesn’t mean we should dismiss the possibility of an MLB rumor linking the Astros with the best mask available on this year’s trade deadline.
