The Cardinals are getting an injury update on Alex Reyes, and it’s not good

“Hard news for Alex Reyes and the #STLCards,” Wu tweeted. “After seeing Dr. Neal the Turks in Los Angeles, it was decided that Reyes would need surgery to address the pain in his involved shoulder. This surgery was scheduled for the end of May and it is likely (but not definitively) to end his season.”

There is little doubt about Reyes’ potential, particularly his exit from the All-Star season in 2021. However, his presence has not been stellar in his football career so far.

He underwent Tommy John’s surgery in 2019 and made 19 total appearances between 2019 and 2020 while dealing with a variety of injuries.

A pain in his shoulder has kept Reyes from climbing the heap so far this season. Surgery will delay his first appearance and possibly end his year before he starts. It is a “step forward, one step back” scenario for the player and the team.

Reyes had a time slot of 3.24 with 29 assists in 2021. This season was the most complete in MLS far and away.

Fans will have to be patient again while they wait for Reyes to return.
