Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Watcher It had been reported weeks ago that WWE had no initial intention to unite the tag titles, which is why the match was originally scheduled WrestleMania backlash Canceled in favor of a non-six-man team match. He noted on Wrestling Observer Radio this week that the decision for Team Usos to win the titles was at the last minute. They didn’t have an end plan… The plan was always the corner at the end, and it was never the same to beat Riddle and Orton. It was a way out of it. Maybe it was DQ for Roman Reigns’ interference. I wasn’t told it directly, I was only told that the important thing was the angle. As for what they were going to do about the ending, they went back and forth and Vince made the call. Basically, you know, “We’ve pushed this so much that we might as well.” It’s not like it was a long term plan and that was the day they would come back. I mean literally there was no plan other than the big angle… the decision itself wasn’t made until Friday,” Meltzer said (h/t WrestlingNews.co).
The ending appears to have been made in order to prepare Reigns’ next contender for the undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Reports surfaced last week that he will defend his title against Riddle in money in the bank Randy Orton in summerslam before he finally collides with Drew McIntyre in Clash in the castle in Wales in September. WWE’s plans for the tag division on either show have not been reported from now on.
