Sebastien Lelio, Storyboard, Les Films D’Ici. El Porvenir de la Mirada

Paris-based Les Films D’Ici (The Waltz with Bashir) is based on the Chilean documentary “El Porvenir de la Mirada”, produced by Santiago-based Storyboard Media and produced by Academy Award winner Sebastian Lelio (“A Fantastic Woman”).

The long-form document recounts the trauma inflicted on young protesters by the bullets in the eyes by Chilean riot police during the massive demonstrations that swept through Chile in October 2019.

“It’s an important film that depicts people being brave and necessary to fight against conscience blindness,” said producer Charlotte Uzo of Les Films D’ici.

“We are delighted to receive our project at the Marché du Film at Cannes, and even more so now that we can count on the extensive experience of the prestigious Les Films D’Ici as our production partner,” said Carlos Nunez of Storyboard Media of Storyboard Media. , who founded the production company with Gabriela Sandoval. “We are sure that their participation will give the project a global dimension,” he added.

“El Porvenir de la Mirada” (roughly translated to “A look to the future”) written and directed by Christian Layton began filming in the eye injuries unit of Hospital del Salvador where hundreds of protesters were brought in and shot in the eyes with rubber bullets and pellets by Chilean security forces .

In all, more than 400 protestors sustained eye injuries or were permanently blinded, representing the worst collective case of eye injuries in international medical history.

Injured protesters share their devastating experience, including their post-traumatic recovery process, and serve as evidence of how the country of Chile has systematically violated human rights.

Civic demonstrations, initially sparked by rising subway prices in the capital, Santiago, have quickly grown to encompass a variety of grievances, including rising costs of living, privatization and rampant inequality across the country.

Doc participated in the San Sebastian Film Festival 2021 Co-Production Forum and now the Marché Du Film Producers Network.

Les Films D’Ici also co-produced the directors’ weekly title “Pamfir”, a Ukrainian drama from Polish Madants and Chilean Quijote Films.
