The list of most played games in 2022 is not there yet, and some may be surprised to learn about the games that have been reduced, more specifically the ones that have not been played. Some familiar titles have topped the chart including games released nearly a decade or more ago, although the ratings were remarkably devoid of any games actually released this year. The respective chart from the NDP has only looked at the Q1 2022 rankings, so there is certainly reason to believe that some of this year’s games could reach the top ten in the future.
This list can be viewed below via NPD Group CEO and Advisor Matt Piscatella. The information on this year’s Top 10 Played Games comes from panelists who listed the games they’ve played over the past month whenever this survey is conducted. The games on the list aren’t in the order one has been played more than the other and are organized chronologically by year of release, but that’s more important to keep in mind how far some of these games have been able to last.

Some of the games on the list won’t come as surprises at all. Maine Craft And Grand Theft Auto VFor example, they are the two best-selling games of all time, so it’s hard to imagine which quarter of any year these two games would make it out of the top 10 by players. The same goes for established franchises like Call of Duty, NBA 2K, and Madden which were the sole cast from 2021. Perhaps most surprising is the fact that Animal Crossing: New Horizons It stayed in the top ten despite getting its last major update in 2021, although it still had seasonal festivities to keep people entertained. Between us It was another somewhat surprising inclusion on the list, although that should show that some of these games that take advantage of sudden bouts of fame end up going on afterwards to avoid being just a flash in the pan.
