Akira Toriyama has been working on the world of Goku and Z-Fighters since the 1980s with the upcoming movie, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, set the focus on Gohan and Piccolo versus Goku and Vegeta. In the lead up to the June release in Japan, the creator of Dragon Ball He took the opportunity to participate in an interview in which the manga revealed his favorite character. With the Red Ribbon Army preparing to return, fans are wondering if Toriyama used this movie to bring back any major villains from Shonen’s past, including Cell.
In an interview with the official Dragon Ball website, Toriyama revealed that his current favorite character is Piccolo, as the Namekian brawler is set to receive a new Super Hero transformation and battle on the front lines alongside Son Gohan against the new infamous androids known as Gamma 1 and Gamma 2:
“Piccolo is my favorite character. He’s always very quiet, so this might be the first time he’s been talkative and active.”
On top of this quote, Toriyama took the opportunity to delve into how Gohan saw Piccolo when it came to his mentor being part of the Son family along with Videl and Pan:
“Gohan has always had a strong relationship with Piccolo, since he trained with him when he was a little kid. Likewise Fidel and Ban think of Piccolo as one of the family members they can count on more than anyone else.”
While Goku was training out of the world, Piccolo was apparently hanging out around Gohan and his family, unsurprisingly many fans cheerfully call Namekian as Gohan’s real father. With Gohan and Piccolo creating a number of tag team attacks during Moro Arc of the manga, which has yet to receive its own anime adaptation, it will be interesting to see if any of these flashy new moves make their way to Super Hero.
While Dragon Ball Super Set to return with this new summer movie, fans are still waiting for word to see if the anime series’ comeback is close, as Moro Arc and Granolah Arc likely have the potential to give the TV series plenty of material to work with.
