Box office: ‘Top Gun Maverick’ breaks Memorial Day weekend record

Tom Cruise’s blockbuster “Top Gun: Maverick” crowned the stars this Memorial Day weekend with its debut at the record book box office. The sequel, which sees Cruise return to the cockpit after 36 years, raised $156 million in its first four days of release.

That ticket sales surpassed Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End,” which launched with $153 million over the long weekend in 2007, as the biggest Memorial Day debut.
