CM Punk needs surgery and quits the AEW World Championship

Earlier in the night, it was revealed that CM Punk will be making a big announcement at AEW Rampage tonight, and he was noticeably limping in his career as he made his way into the ring. Rumors had it of a foot injury, and with the AEW World Championships around his waist, he grabbed the microphone and explained it. Tears were welling up in his eyes before he could even begin to speak, and he revealed that he had an injury that required surgery, which is keeping him sidelined for a while. He also revealed that he will give up the title, but plans to come back and be stronger than ever.

“When I came here earlier today, I stopped into the plaza and every bone in my body was screaming at me to turn around and hug my wife, and when I say every bone in my body, I mean the broken pieces. My gut tells me that everyone who lives here deserves an explanation, so lo I said since I set foot here at All Elite Wrestling I was going to give you everything I had until the wheels dropped. I have good news and I’ve got bad news, what do you want first?”

“Because the last thing I wanted to feel was I was giving up on either of you or leaving you frustrated, so I hope so far I haven’t made you feel this way,” Punk said. “I loved every second I got on this ring. Every time I was on this ring in front of you all was a gift I never thought I’d ever get to experience again. Here’s why the bad news. The bad news is I’m injured and need surgery. Two things are broken, The biggest is my heart. Because I don’t like anything more than that to do in front of you all and I wanted to go on through hell.”

“The good news is that I can still do all of that. I told you I’m going until the wheels fall and it’s still there and it didn’t fall off, it’s just breaking one of them,” Punk said. “I’ve been through worse and this is a bump in the road. It hurts as hell. I want to wrestle for you. I want to wrestle now. However, let’s talk about this title. I told Tony before I got out here that I don’t want to hang this up.” “There’s a laundry list of talent that can fill my shoes and be a champ. I’m talking about Brian Danielson. I’m talking to Jon Moxley. But Tony tells me he believes in CM Punk, and he thinks that’s an obstacle in the way.”

Punk concluded with, “A comeback will be better than a setback. I’m a champion for a reason, and I’m going to show you why I’m coming back faster, stronger and hungrier than ever before, and I’m going to prove why I’m the best in the world!”
