Colin Trevorrow reacts to fans’ reception of the scrapped Duel of Destiny script

Following the revival of the Jurassic franchise, it was announced that director Colin Trevorrow is headed toward a galaxy far, far away, and was the original director of Star Wars: Episode Nine. Eventually Lucasfilm and Trevorrow parted ways, resulting in J.J. Abrams returning and the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but an entire script was written by Trevorrow and Derek Connolly….a script that was eventually leaked. Star Wars: Duel of Destinies, fan response to the movie exploded online, particularly in the wake of the release of The Rise of Skywalker which was a disappointment to many members of the audience. Trevorrow was asked in a recent interview how he felt about this fan response, which he described as encouraging.

“Honestly, if any director tells you they don’t care what audiences think, or even people who watch movies and write about them for a living, I’m not sure if they are completely honest with themselves,” Trevorrow said. The Hollywood Reporter. “I make these movies for audiences, but I also make them for people who think about movie all the time and watch movies the way I do. So yeah, sure. Anytime you do something that’s well received, it’s going to encourage you and I hope to assure you that there wasn’t Only reason to start doing it in the first place, but your impostor syndrome is only partially real and you’re not a complete con. (laughs) And I think we all have those moments.”

Not only did Trevorrow’s entire script leak out onto the Internet, but pieces of concept art showing what could have been shown online have also appeared. Among the pictures that started circulating are the following:

  • An execution scene in Coruscant showing Captain Phasma using a lightsaber guillotine
  • Luke Skywalker who is still alive is training RI
  • Kylo Ren fights to see Darth Vader in a cave
  • Luke confronts Kylo Ren and picks up the villain’s lightsaber with his mechanical hand
  • Hux commits a ritual suicide (seppuku) using a lightsaber, when the First Order collapses at the Battle of Coruscant.
  • Lea reintroduces her iconic introduction to New hope By recording a cry it collects to the galaxy in a 3D message recorded by BB-8.

You can read more about it here. The above quote wasn’t the only time Trevorrow was asked about the movie on his latest press tour, he said UPROXX He is “very satisfied” with the time he has worked with Lucasfilm.

“It was complicated. But, honestly, I mean, since we’re talking about 2022, I can honestly say I’m very grateful for [Lucasfilm president] Kathy [Kennedy] “To realize that she and I wouldn’t be making a movie we’d be proud of together,” Trevorrow said. And the [producer] sincere [Marshall] And I’m still partners. I’m part of this group of amazing filmmakers, so it was a complicated moment, but now that I’ve been able to do this and really feel like this… I’m glad I did. I am very comfortable doing this. I appreciate that she had the wisdom to see something that, frankly, I’m not sure I could have seen because I was so in touch with the story I wanted to tell.”

One piece from Trevorrow’s unmade movie made it into the Star Wars movie…sort of, since the ship he designed for the movie was incorporated into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge theme park.
