The New England Patriots’ wide receivers pay tribute to quarterback Mac Jones’ arm strength in the small camp.
After Tom Brady left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020, the New England Patriots set out to find his successor. In the spring of 2021, they used their first-round pick on Alabama’s Mac Jones, who was out winning the National Championship. Jones showed promise in the junior season, but he didn’t exactly shine the stat sheet.
During the mandatory junior camp in New England, Jones is gaining some great reviews from his teammates as he prepares to enter his second NFL season. Some of these players are broadband receivers Jacoby Myers and Nelson Agulor.

“It’s better by a year,” said Nelson Agulor, one of the wide receivers. h/t Mark Daniels from Providence Magazine. “Working hard every day. He does a great job communicating, always working to be the best version of himself. I’m grateful he’s the midfielder.”
One area that has received rave reviews from teammates and the media in attendance is Jones’ arm strength, which has been a concern during his rookie campaign. Just look at one of Jones’ throws to receive Tre Nixon in practice, courtesy of Khari Thompson of WEI.
Jones won a starting quarterback job by boot camp on veteran Cam Newton, and took advantage of his opportunity as a rookie. During the full regular season, Jones completed 67.6 percent of his passes for 3,801 yards, 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He received a Pro Bowl nomination and finished second AP Offensive novice of the year rating.
The Patriots went 10-7 to clinch the Wild Card berth, earning a first-round playoff game against rival Buffalo Bills. Dawn of New England Buffalo 47-17. Jones completed 24 of 38 pass attempts for 232 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Patriots fans should love what they hear about Jones’ improvements during the season. But they want to see her translate on the field during the regular season. So, let’s get back to this once we get into the regular season.
