The DC world is currently shocked by the events of dark crisisCrossover started with the death of the Justice League. As fans have already seen across the event and its various links, this catalyst has amassed a number of surprising heroes and villains, some of which haven’t been prominent in DC continuity lately. According to a Q&A on Reddit recently with dark crisis Writer Joshua Williamson, the long-awaited return of the character may be on the way soon. When asked about the possibility of an “ArrowFam” reunion, and whether or not Mia Durden/Speedy could be a part of it, Williamson confirmed that “Mia will be back.”
“Mia will be back,” Williamson wrote. “I can’t get in anytime and anywhere without a lot of spoilers. And yes, I love arrows!”
Created by Kevin Smith and Phil Hester, Mia is initially presented as a victim of child prostitution taken under the wing of Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, and becomes Spidey’s second incarnation. She became a major component of ArrowFam, as well as a member of the Teen Titans. While Mia was missing out on the early days of the new 52 re-release, she would go on to inspire other elements of the Green Arrow canon, particularly the characters Thea Queen and Mia Smoak-Queen in The CW’s Arrow. Mia was eventually reimagined within the New 52 as the daughter of a corrupt billionaire, and in the years since, her appearance has consisted of scenes outside the major DC continuity, or as a vision of the past year. Of course, it remains to be seen exactly what Mia’s return might entail, especially given the criteria that appear to have been set in Dark Crisis. In particular, it appears as though the League members who “dead” – including Oliver and Dina Lance/Black Canary – may actually have survived, but have been placed in different pocket universes by Pariah. The ending of the Williamson-designed mini-series Infinite Frontier showcased what happened to Barry Allen/The Flash, and set him in a world where all of his extended family were alive and happy. It certainly wouldn’t be out of the question for Oliver or Dina El Jebey’s world of Mia’s Show. However, there is certainly potential for her to appear in the main continuity of the event as well, as someone grieving, or inspired by the perceived loss of Oliver and Dina.
