This Giants Trade Package Could Send Wilson Contreras to the Bay

The San Francisco Giants were pitched as a potential trade applicant for Chicago Cubs hunter Wilson Contreras. Do they have the assets to make a move?

With Joy Bart experience Not going according to planThe Giants have never had a chance to move on from Buster Posey in the necessary way. Posey was a controversial inductee into the San Francisco Hall of Fame, and his decision to retire at the age of 34 left the team with a loophole in the position, which Bart was supposed to fill.

In 36 games, Bart has cut only .156/.296/.300. These numbers will not do.

While Contreras was in a contract year, San Francisco wasn’t afraid to go on a big game hunt. Just last season they made a deal for Kris Bryant, also with Cubs previously.

So why not discuss a similar trade with a familiar partner?

Contreras may be in a contract year, but he’s still an all-star player and the best player in his position available to trade, by long shot. In order for the giants to acquire Contreras, they would need to give away potential capital. This deal includes players in the MLB Pipeline’s top 10 players, and another of the Teng’s top 30 players.

Beaumaris is the potential No. 6 player in the organization, but has been blocked by two other players, Luis Matos and Heliot Ramos.

In the meantime, Bailey makes a lot more sense than including Bart in this deal. He expects to be a better touchdown hitter and is a first-round pick coming out of injury. There is some risk here, but the Giants will want to keep Bart as collateral should they lose the Contreras in the free agency. Nor does Bart fit the Cubs window, while Billy is only 23 years old.

Teng has barely hit the potential giants’ rankings at number 30, but as a Double-A player he can get some MLB matches at a struggling team like Chicago.

Contreras is the most promising player in this trade, without exception. Meanwhile, Chicago is building its farming system for the future.
