Sidney Sweeney opens up about filming sex scenes in “Ecstasy,” which she says boosted her confidence in her body.
“She doesn’t know how to communicate without showing her body,” Sweeney said of her character, Cassie. “This is a form of communication for her, and she’s never been taught that you don’t need to.”
Sweeney delves into her character’s psyche diversePresented by Apple TV +, “Actors of Actors”, in conversation with “Yellowjackets” star Christina Ricci. “Ecstasy” made headlines earlier this year when Sweeney revealed that there were supposed to be more nude scenes in the show’s sophomore season, even speaking out against including them because she felt they were unnecessary.
“It’s a very safe environment. I am very fortunate to have come at a time when there was a lot of thought in the process, and we now have intimate coordinators,” Sweeney said.
Sweeney also clarified the role of intimacy coordinator after Richie said she had never worked with anyone.
“They bring in the tools,” Sweeney said.
“Impossible. Stop it,” Ritchie replied.
“And we design everything. Sometimes there are yoga mats that you can put between each other,” Sweeney said. And even if you’ve agreed to something, they immediately ask you back in the day, ‘Did you change your mind? Because you can.’ It’s really nice. I’ve never felt so uncomfortable.”
“I haven’t done a sex scene in two years,” Ritchie replied. “I’m at that age where they don’t ask you to do them much anymore. I mean, I don’t really enjoy them.”
Richie also revealed that she took matters into her own hands on the set of a movie once, opting to remain nude even when the sex scenes weren’t being taped. That won’t happen today, Sweeney said, because they’re “throwing robes on you now.”
“I was like, ‘Don’t make me feel weird,’ like I’m the one to be ashamed of,” Ritchie said. And I was talking to the crew while they were naked.”
Sweeney replied, “I have to say, it’s kind of a force movement.”
