Free “Lightyear” board prepared by VIEW Conference; October speakers named

VIEW will host a virtual chat with the filmmakers behind Pixar’s “Lightyear” on Tuesday, June 28, and have announced the first speakers for its largely in-person event in Turin, Italy, October 16-21.

Privo’s free online event features director Angus MacLean, producer Jalen Sussman, supervising animator David Devan, and supervising simulation and dressmaker Fran Callal. They will share a behind-the-scenes look at the animated adventure that follows the Space Ranger character who inspired Buzz Lightyear from Pixar’s “Toy Story” series.

“We’ve gone over the moon to join forces with our friends at Pixar for this special introductory panel,” says conference director Maria Elena Gutierrez. “Meeting Angus MacLane and his creative team is a great way to celebrate the release of this much-anticipated film and also to whet the appetite for the main conference program in October.”

VIEW highlights the best creative minds in visual effects, animation, games and more.

Among the first speakers announced for the October conference are Nickelodeon Animation and Paramount Animation President Ramsay Naito. Industrial Light & Magic Senior Vice President and Chief Creative Officer Rob Bredow, and Marc Petit, Vice President and General Manager of Epic Games’ Unreal Engine. Producer Roy Conley will be on hand to share a look at the upcoming Disney movie “Strange World,” while Peter Ramsey and Shannon Tindell will talk about the Netflix series “Lost Ollie.” Director Rob Minkoff and producer Alex Schwartz will star in VIEW with Paramount’s “Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank.” Jay Worth, Senior Vice President of Visual Effects and Visual Effects at HBO, will speak about the cable series “Westworld.”

Other speakers at the conference include director Chris Byrne (“The Willoughbys”), Netflix Director of Research, Creative Algorithms and Technology Paul Dibevick, National Film Council Canada Eloi Champagne, RenderMan pioneer Dylan Sisson, and Guerilla Games Studio Director Jan Bart Van Beek. and Chief Insomniac Games Animator Kevin Groe and ILM London Creative Director and Visual Effects Supervisor Ben Morris.
