Andrade Idulo reveals that AEW’s original plan was for him to face Will Osprey at Forbidden Door

Expectations are growing for the upcoming AEW and New Japan Pro-Wrestling Forbidden Door pay-per-view match, and as the event approaches, more dream scenarios have been added to the card. Unfortunately, one of these initially planned matches for Forbidden Door had to be altered, and that was a match between IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion Will Ospray and Andrade El Idolo. Andrade previously tweeted, “Can’t work with NJPW, thanks CMLL and AAA,” and in a new interview with Hugo Savinovich of Lucha Libre OnlineHe revealed why he was unable to appear in NJPW and what led to the match being changed.

“What bothers me is not with AEW, because they had an idea for me to face Will Osprey. He’s a great wrestler, but that was the original stadium for the United States Championship (IWPG),” said Idollo. “The idea was also to go to Japan for a week or two and come back for this event (Forbidden Door). A week went by and I was told that I could not work in the show because Mexican wrestlers who work with AAA can not work with NJPW. It was strange to me because Many wrestlers from many nationalities work with NJ and AAA, like Kenny (Omega) and Young Bucks, so it was weird.”

“I don’t understand the logic either, but it really bothers me because I was excited, but the Mexican people working with AAA couldn’t work with New Japan,” Idollo said. “I think Penta and Fenix couldn’t work on the show either, but that’s what I know. It’s frustrating the way Rush and I have helped raise the bar for Los Ingobernables, but I know something about the CMLL-NJPW partnership. I realize that AAA The doors have been opened to solve the issues but they have not been resolved.”

He was then asked if he was brought up tight in this AAA and CMLL conflict, when he revealed that he is also set to take part in TripleMania Tijuana but that can’t happen either. “I ask myself the same. I don’t have a contract with AAA, but it bothers me that I love wrestling in Mexico, but I also love wrestling in Japan. I was due to participate in TripleMania Tijuana, but it never happened. AAA never canceled my reservation for the show so I could Go to Japan.”

“Another thing is that, last year, I had talks with AAA for this year, but was never contacted about it again. AAA told me I could work anywhere, but exclusively with AEW, nobody else. If the new Japan needed my services , my doors will open. AAA and I talked last year about a contract for 2022 to prioritize wrestling in Mexico for AAA,” El Idolo said. “I didn’t get a contract for AAA, but was due to do TripleManias, but they didn’t cancel the dates and didn’t tell me I didn’t need the shows. If I had known the repercussions, I wouldn’t have worked with AAA to work with New Japan. I haven’t had any issues with Konnan, I know he’ll jump on hurdles for the company, and I’m grateful to AAA and Konnan, but that’s my only annoyance.”

After El Idolo was unable to participate in the match, plans were changed, and now Ospreay will face Orange Cassidy at Forbidden Door, which is set up this week.
