Watch the ‘missing’ Sesame Street episode that was too scary for kids

A supposedly “losing” episode of Sesame Street It is circulating again online after being rediscovered and uploaded by a Reddit user. The children’s series’ long episode wasn’t really lost, with a copy reportedly in the Library of Congress. However, the episode was not aired again after its first airing in 1976, and it was not released to home media after parents sent complaints to Sesame Workshop that the episode was too scary for young children. The episode sees Margaret Hamilton reprising her role as the Wicked Witch of the West from wizard of oz To tease a child about her missing broom. While the episode was apparently all about teaching kids to deal with and overcome their fears, some felt it went a bit too far in raising those fears. You can see it below.

This wasn’t the only time Hamilton had reprized her role as the wicked witch for educational children’s television. Also featured in Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood as personality.

Sesame Street: Music Directed and directed by Rockefeller and will feature many Sesame Street characters, including Abby Cadabby, Rosetta, Bert, Ernie, Oscar the Grouch, The Count, and Gabriel. The production will also feature some classic Sesame Street songs and new songs created specifically for the production. Guest stars from Broadway and elsewhere will appear on the show. The full cast of the show has not been announced. Rockefeller Productions, the studio behind the musical, is best known for family entertainment, having previously produced shows such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show, Paddington Gets in a Jam, and Disney’s Winnie the Pooh: The New Musical Stage Adaptation.
