Big Tanner Hook Vaccination Case Waving For Red Sox

Boston Red Sox player Tanner Hook is still not immune, according to Alex Cora. He won’t be with the team next week against the Blue Jays.

Hawke’s failure to get a COVID-19 vaccine received a lot of publicity, as did most of the athletes who made a similar decision. His health is certainly his choice, and in no way does this article suggest that he should be forced to undergo any treatment against his will.

However, it’s also impossible to deny that Hawk’s absence—especially as he might ascend to a role closer to Boston—came late. One look at the rankings can help clarify this.

The Sox is just 2.5 games behind Jays in the AL East standings, hence the Wild Card. Hawk was quoted a year ago as saying he would do anything to help his team win. Obviously anything that doesn’t include the COVID-19 vaccine.

It is an important qualification that must be mentioned.

Red Sox: Tanner Hook emerges as a closer candidate

Since June 10, all four of Hawk’s appearances have been providing opportunities, not a main role. His teammates seem to support the decision, although Cora has yet to make it official.

Cristian Vazquez: “He looks relaxed” NESN . said. “I think he was looking very good there. He has bad things and I think he will help a lot this season.”

Hook development is important for several reasons. First and foremost, Boston needs help closer, and help in general. Hook provides that and more. Second, and most relevant in this scenario, is that Sox will be without a key piece as they head to Toronto.

Given the shape of the playoff and the level of success of both teams in a crowded AL, is it really unlikely to think that Boston might have to take on Toronto down the road with a playoff point on the streak, at some point? To say the least, an important series looms late in the season.

Hook will not be there.
