RiverdaleThe current sixth season is making its way to an end—the season finale is currently scheduled to end on Sunday, July 31—and while the fan-favorite series returns for season seven in 2023, this return has been bittersweet. The CW announced earlier this year that Riverdale will conclude with season 7. According to series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, this seventh season could be the last something they had planned ahead of time and promises that the final move will be a “big swing.”
“I’m out of conversations with the studio, The CW, and [network president] Aguirre-Sacasa “Mark Bedowitz” said TVLine. “When we got renewed for Season 7, even though we weren’t told at the time that it would be our last season, I think we all had a feeling it might as well. When Mark and I talked about it… it was bittersweet. We’re proud,” he said. So much for the run we got, and the call came in while we were working on the final episode of Season 6. We were discussing about the final beats of that episode and we were torn between a very big swing set and a much quieter ending. And it definitely encouraged us to go for the big swing of season 7. It really is exciting. .”
While the seventh season of Riverdale It would be a “big swing,” Pedowitz previously said the series would have a “proper farewell” because they wanted the right thing for the series and its fans.
“We had a long conversation with Roberto yesterday, who was thrilled with the news,” Bedovitz said. “And we’re going to treat the show the way it deserves. He’s been a superstar in pop culture, and we want to make sure he’s going in the right direction and that’s the decision. I think they chose seven years as the right amount, and we want to do the right thing. That’s a personal thing.” As a fan, I want to do what’s right for the show.”
He added, “We haven’t announced the number of episodes yet. But I don’t think it’s going to be short. It goes back to what I said earlier: I’m a big believer in trying to make a long series a proper farewell.”
