Over the past few years, Nintendo and LEGO have introduced a number of sets based on the Super Mario franchise. In addition to the larger sets, LEGO has also released smaller character packs. At LEGO Con, the company revealed the fifth wave of these packs, which include familiar Mario family characters like Nabbit, Blue Shy Guy, Baby Yoshi, and more. For fans of LEGO and Mario, this wave looks like a must-see, with plenty of fan favorites and obscure extras.

While the LEGO Super Mario line features designs based on many different games, this wave of character packs appears to be heavily inspired by New Super Mario Bros. U. Waddlewings made their debut in that game, often taking down the Super Acorns. Nabbit also appeared in the 2012 title as an antagonist, and later appeared as a playable character in the game’s DLC. Of course, Waddlewings and Nabbit have since appeared in many other Mario games, so fans should recognize both even if they haven’t played this particular game. The Baby Yoshi design shown in the above tweet first appeared in 1991 Super Mario Worldbut Yoshi also plays a big role in New Super Mario Bros. Uso both new fans and old fans should be able to appreciate this design.

The collaboration between Nintendo and LEGO has been so much fun to see over the past few years! While some were disappointed that LEGO didn’t make traditional Mario team minifigures, the designs seem to have grown on a lot of Nintendo fans. Oddly enough, these LEGO builds were never used in a video game. Given how much LEGO video games continue to sell, it’s somewhat odd that Nintendo didn’t make a Mario game with LEGO-inspired designs and gameplay. Perhaps if these sets continue to sell well, we’ll see video game collaborations in the future!
