Callisto Protocol Developer Glen Schofield spoke with Game Informer About how the game was originally linked to PUBG and how they eventually decided to scrap that idea. Ultimately, Scofield said the idea was that they wanted to “ride the wave” of PUBG’s popularity. At some point, the game started to grow and became its own thing and it no longer made sense to associate it with PUBG and the idea seemed to be scrapped.
“I think because it was such a popular game, can we ride the wave of some of that,” Schofield said. “It really did fit at some point, it really did fit, but we’re a little over it.”
As of now, it looks like that Callisto Protocol She’ll stand alone and embrace her Dead Space roots instead. The game actually feels like a terrifying sci-fi experience that will feature massive monsters, bloody slashers, and all sorts of other horror and sci-fi metaphors that Dead Space fans will likely enjoy. It remains to be seen whether or not the world of PUBG expands beyond its core games, but it is an interesting possibility that could lead to a unique video game world if PUBG Corp is willing to try again.
