Few production companies are as synonymous with horror as Blumhouse, whose approach to filmmaking is based on modest budgets, large-scale releases, and talented creators who often have discretion. This formula shouldn’t be too successful for anyone familiar with the way Hollywood worked before it focused almost exclusively on superhero movies and other tent poles, but it’s totally refreshing. With “The Black Phone” opening tomorrow and a slew of projects (including the already controversial “they/they”) on the horizon, here’s a look back at Blumhouse’s best horror show thus far.
