Marvel Studios announces SDCC plans

After much speculation from fans in recent months, Marvel Studios today announced its plans for the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con season. Between the number of projects the studio is developing, returning to personally celebrate SDCC, and with the debut of D23 later this year, fans have been wondering how focused the studio is on the Marvel Cinematic Universe and what’s on the horizon, and we now know there will be an in-person presence and presentation in this event. This year’s San Diego Comic-Con will run from July 21 to July 24 and bring a barrage of exciting experiences in honor of a number of franchises.

“We’ll be at Comic-Con next month, and we’re excited about it,” Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said during a press conference for Thor: Love and Thunder. “First time since we were on stage three years ago talking about this movie and many others. Now, I guess, not just about everything but almost everything we discussed three years ago has been released so we’re excited to go and talk about the future.”

In the early days of the MCU, Marvel Studios’ panel in Hall H was legendary not only because it brought together beloved artists to provide fans with a first look at highly-anticipated projects, but it also featured announcements about future projects being developed. However, in recent years, between SDCC, D23, and many other events hosted by The Walt Disney Company, such advertisements now spread across all of these experiences.

Fortunately, the MCU continues to grow and expand in many ways, with no signs of stopping, so there are plenty of projects to be announced at these various events.

The additional variables when it comes to the announcements are that in the years after the major announcements around the studio roster, the follow-up shows don’t always offer all the updates fans could hope for. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, in-person events have been affected in the past two years, which means Marvel Studios hasn’t been a part of the Hall H show since 2019.

This show included the reveal of Mahershala Ali’s casting in a new Blade movie, along with updates on projects like Black WidowAnd the eternityAnd the Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten RingsAnd the Doctor Strange in a multiverse of madnessas well as TV series such as WandaVisionAnd the What if…?And the The Hawk and the Winter SoldierAnd the loki.

One of the biggest revelations about Marvel Studios’ show in Hall H was the confirmation of Natalie Portman returning to the MCU for Thor: Love and Thunder, including the surprise that Jane Foster will take on the mantle of Thor for adventure. With this movie’s release approaching, this leaves room for some key pieces of information for the Marvel Studios team to share with fans in action.

Stay tuned for details on Marvel Studios’ plans for San Diego Comic-Con before the event kicks off on July 21.
