Philadelphia Phillies’ Bryce Harper will miss the squad for some time with a broken left thumb.

The Philadelphia Phillies will be scrambling in the coming days to try to find a replacement for the 2021 NL MVP Bryce Harper. Hitter was drilled during Saturday’s game against the San Diego Padres by Blake Snell’s fastball.

There’s no timeline yet for Harper’s return, but fans should assume that the Six-Times All-Star will be out of service for several weeks and possibly even two months. This is a devastating blow to the aspirations of the Phillies team in the playoffs.

But, with Major League Baseball entering a time of year when teams are looking to lead and tackle, perhaps the Phillies will be able to find a short-term solution to Harper’s absence. Who are the three players Philadelphia might consider to replace Bryce Harper?

1. David Peralta could replace Bryce Harper in the Phillies squad.

When researching potential replacements for Bryce Harper, you should assume that the Philadelphia Phillies will be looking for a short-term commitment and a left-handed bat. David Peralta fits these two categories.

The 34-year-old will become a free agent after this season and can bring a solid defense to the Velez Stadium. Bryce Harper was hobbled by injury for most of the 2022 season which limited the two-time All-Star to the DH-only role.

Adding a skilled player like David Peralta would allow the Phillies to move Kyle Schwarber into the DH role and give Philadelphia a better defensive presence on the left field. The Arizona Diamondbacks are likely to be trade deadline sellers and are unlikely to send Peralta back to the desert next season.
