Below are spoilers for the fourth season premiere of Westworldso be careful if you haven’t taken advantage of the madness yet.
After a hiatus of just over two years – and I am sure the exact number of days that have passed is in itself a clue to the future – Westworld He’s finally back on HBO to start what will surely be a fun scratch-off for Season 4. Capture the highly anticipated premiere, “The Augories,” in the story seven years later The Chaotic Rebellion that capped season 3and appears to have been part of a regular, traditional series at times, from Evan Rachel Wood’s new character Christina looks human To the overall lack of Delos and theme parks (outside flashbacks).
Of course, co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy had plenty of quirkiness, rampant mystery, and simple cheer throughout, giving audiences plenty to think about while they wait for the second episode. So let’s take a look at the four biggest takeaways from WestworldSeason 4’s intro, followed by some random musings.
Evan Rachel Wood’s Christina may be partially responsible for players’ suicides
While the details are a bit smudged, Evan Rachel Wood is no Dolores—which we’ll refer to as Christina for clarity and because it’s her real name—she works for some sort of game company as a writer that seems to work mostly realistically. situational experiences. Although she prefers to craft the tales more in line with Dolores Farms’ origins, her boss (played by The Vampire DiariesVet Michael Malarkey) wants more sexual and violent fare. So for the most part, this aspect of Christina’s life felt very tame and uncontroversial. But then there were the phone calls Cristina was getting, all apparently from a raucous, raucous man named Peter (played by 12 monkeys Vet Aaron Stanford), who claimed that her toys ruined his life and the lives of others.
Westworld He could easily have kept that loose thread dangling for another episode or two, but instead speeded things up by having Peter meet Christina outside her house. This man, speaking of the tower and other non-hackers, does not know how to stand still rationally and explain himself, however, the confusion reached the point where Peter jumped off a building in front of Christina, wondering whether or not it was her game that caused this to happen. Not exactly a normal thing to deal with, and the fact that Christina sees the maze symbol… well, doesn’t bode well for nature either.
But Christina didn’t act like she had any idea what Peter was talking about, even in private moments away from her roommate. And she certainly didn’t appear to be programming any mind control games when she was seen at work. So while the whole idea of ”technology that dictates people’s actions” clearly aligns with WestworldA mission statement, it is not yet clear what the hell is with the zodiac and how Christina plays her role in it. And let’s face it, it may never be.
The man in black is on a mission that involves a group of flies
through time WestworldThe premiere is over, and it was almost easy to forget that the episode started so strangely Ed Harris boots in black Trying to literally buy the Hoover Dam. Understandably, no one jumped at his immediate offer, but then no one else understood how much he had died upon taking possession of the aforementioned dam. His actions, presumably directed in some way by Charlotte Hill, appear to focus on regaining access to data that was stolen eight years ago.
Jonathan Nolan confirmed that the Man in Black mission links back to something we saw in Season 2, so the information he was looking for that was on the Delos estate could be gathered, likely among the many massive servers that were in Forge. (And it could technically be again, given the time jump of seven years.) But since this is WestworldThe data may not have been what we expect, so there’s no point in speculating too highly at the moment.
But we can also guess what the hell is going on with those flies, because that was a really horrible moment. And it wasn’t entirely clear if it was real and tangible, or just a hallucinatory thing with this character. the sky is bigArturo del Puerto’s photo. Whatever the case, it is certain that the flies were somehow sent by Man in Black or those above him, and they are somehow able to make people bend to the will of others. To the extent that someone slashes their throat is on the command list. As if the pictures of huge swaths of flies weren’t already disturbing enough.
I will follow Maeve in any rebellion, not so much Caleb
Although we didn’t spend as much time with Thandiwe Newton’s Maeve as I would have liked – almost the entire episode, give or take 30 seconds – it looks as though her narrative thrust early in the season will revolve around her trying to take out everyone that seems to be the guy. The man in black sends her to kill her. Although I’m not entirely convinced that this was the case, considering that it was difficult to gauge anyone’s full intentions by the few memories Maeve had of her attacker.
No matter who’s been trying to track her down over the years, they must prepare to pile up a pile of corpses, both human and host type, because Maeve isn’t one to back down when faced with a threat. And my money on that character “wins” in the end, even if there’s no real victory in it Westworld.
But do I feel good about Caleb entering the mission alongside Maeve? not exactly. Especially after seeing how his home life is going. As somewhat warm as he is a passionate husband and father who loves goal practice, he seems to have been overtaken by PTSD and paranoia more than at any time in the past seven years. And while there’s nothing necessarily wrong with these traits per se, they certainly portend tough times ahead for ol’ Caleb. Which probably means Maeve will suffer from the extension, which wouldn’t be great.
More main characters should appear
I can totally understand why plots like . are so intense Westworld He may need to start a new season without moving all his parts and mechanisms. Especially when dealing with actors taking on new roles, time jumps, and other new characters to introduce. So I make no mistake in the season 4 premiere for putting away other favorite characters while setting up all the dominos that haven’t fallen yet.
However, I’d be remiss if I didn’t comment on how the episode affected the lack of a band sharing the screen together, at least before Maeve showed up in time to save Caleb and his daughter from being crowned. Considering it was a bad moment, it helped prove my point.
Even if we didn’t get more of the band’s real moments, I’d also be happy to spend two or three scenes with Bernard Jeffrey Wright, who was last seen dusting off after a supposed trip to Sublime. Why should we wait at least another week to find out what’s new? Why?!? Also, let’s see some non-flashback clementines!
Other ideas Delos agreed on for ‘August’
- Who would have guessed Ariana Debus was exactly what Westworld needed? Obviously the director, who deserves a set of “the way to go!” balloons;
- I totally understood that these were all CGI flies, but someone had to tell Arturo Del Puerto to react a little more “damn dread” – brilliantly at that moment, considering how WTF things were. It was amazingly quiet, considering I was going to smash the porcelain with my screams after seeing this crowd of flies.
- I like that the fly form is incorporated into the opening title sequence for Season 4. Nothing goes together in nightmares like flies and skulls.
- When Christina passed a seemingly homeless man while he was walking through town, he definitely mentioned that the tower loomed above everyone else, which was certainly no coincidence. But was one of the people “ruined” by the game like Peter?
- Christina’s boss is kinda nasty, and both her conversations with him and her dinner date felt like they were written by AI, which I feel is noteworthy in the volume labeled “Potential Evidence for Why the Real World of Season 4 is Actually a Park”.
- How did returning star James Marsden appear in time there in the end, and what does his character have to do with any of this?
- Nothing is more ingrained cooler than Maeve meditating inside an igloo as Jimi Hendrix plays.
- “Now be dear and close your eyes, right?” the cold. as such. ice.
- It’s weird to watch Evan Rachel Wood as the undead Westworld character (or whatever) Dolores is, even after the body swap in Season 3. I already know I won’t be able to shake the feeling that there are identity-related ups and downs that are coming for Cristina.
- “Tabs” is the 4th season equivalent of 3rd season “Drip”, I think. At least with respect to primitive drugs, if not for the fact that they are similar in their effects and purpose of use.
- I don’t really understand why Maeve’s power went out, as I don’t understand why she was working so hard on her memories back then, seven years after going to the Llam. Does AI have a seven-year itch, as it were?
- prediction: Frankie teddy bear will undoubtedly be destroyed, and it will be a top 3 tragedy of the season.
- Do we think the Mev’s sheath is a very smelly mess that she doesn’t care, because she’s not human, or do we think she cleans it up when necessary? Because she definitely didn’t wipe that blade before she stuck it in there, and it was poured into blood or any life fluid.
- As happy as I was to see Ariana DeBose on screen, that was how happy and surprised I was to see Good Girls vet Manny Montana appear as a carver near the end of the episode. It’s brought a lot to Mayans MC Season 4 in recent months, so hopefully, it’s coming to Westworld as well.
