Palm Springs ShortFest winners include Sierra, Cave

The Palm Springs International Short Film Festival concluded on Sunday with jury awards that went to ‘Sierra’ in Estonia for best festival, ‘Cave’ in South Korea for best animated short film and ‘Michael Thompson’s sentence’ for best documentary, in both juror and audience categories. Cambodia’s “More and More Away” won the award for best live action short 15 minutes, and “right words” from France won the award for best live action short 15 minutes and under the category.

First Prize winners are eligible to submit their short films to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for consideration for an Academy Award.

Additional prizes include:

● Winner: Tears of the Seine (France)

A short documentary film for the student

● Winner: La Prova (Belgium)

Best Short International Student Award – The winner will receive a cash prize of $500.

● Winner: Bagh (Israel),

Best American Short Student

● Winner: Foreign Uncle (USA/China)

Special Jury Prizes:

Best International Short Film – Winner receives a cash prize of $1,000.

● Winner: Sideral (France / Brazil)

Best American Short Film

● Winner: Act of God (USA)

Best comedy short film

● Winner: The Diamond (Sweden)

Best LGBT + Short

● Winner: High Jump (Belgium)

Best Short Film, Midnight – Winner receives a cash prize of $1,000.

● Winner: Your Houseplants Scream (USA)

Boundary Bridge Mozic Award

● Winner: Freedom Swimmer (Australia/France/UK/Hong Kong)

Local Jury Prize

● Winner: BABYBANGZ (USA / UK)

Vimeo Staff Pick Award – Chosen by Vimeo curators. The winner received a cash prize of $2,500.

● Winner: Meanwhile (USA)

Youth Film Award

● Winner: Lucky Fish (USA)
