Downton Abbey: A New Era He really hits a lot of different tunes: he’s funny, emotional, attractive and his relationships are often complicated but fun to watch too. end of the second Downton The movie follows some of these same notes, bringing laughter and tears to the eyes of its viewers (and Downton ejaculate). However, the exact final scene that fans got at the end was not what was originally written in the movie. Instead, director Simon Curtis revealed to CinemaBlend that he felt what was originally written wasn’t quite right, so he made a change.
Talk to the director before the live broadcast, Blu-ray and DVD releases Downton Abbey: A New EraSimon Curtis and I talked about the last scene in the movie. This scene sees Tom, Lucy, and the child returning to Downton for a cheerful moment in the hall while you watch the picture of the now-deceased widowed Countess, played by Mrs. Maggie Smith, from the wall. It is a moment of joy and luxury after audiences have just witnessed and emotionally interacted with Mrs. Violet’s final moments on screen, with Carson even giving a somber monologue from the basement. Curtis told CinemaBlend that he actually added that extra scene at the end on purpose, even though it wasn’t originally in the script.
It really felt like we needed a classy, upbeat ending, and the new kid pointing at Violet now seems like a picture on the wall seems like a good way to do it.
In fact, the funeral of the Countess’ widow was almost the last note in the movie. That moment comes after she takes her last breath and makes an unforgettable crack to Dunker along the lines of “I can’t hear myself dying” before she takes her last breath. While her solo streak gives a moment of relaxation, there is still a choking cry over this and subsequent funeral scenes felt in the audience. Obviously, that’s what Julian Fellowes originally wrote in the script, but Curtis saw things a little differently.
The funeral is over [what was there] When I first read the text. But I think the extra role is valuable. And it’s also really indicative of a group of actors playing a family that has already become a family. And I love the fact that hovering around the baby are the grandparents but all the servants too. I think it’s a beautiful picture.
It’s interesting how Maggie Smith is positioned Downton Abbey: A New Era It’s over, especially considering the questions that were asked when the movie was announced Whether or not Smith was actually involved. (some Downton Fans even went so far as to express Violet Crowley was supposed to have died during the events of the show.) In the end we get a lot of characters in the movie due to the central ambiguity of the plot revolving around a former love interest and Villa in France.
However, focusing on Dowager Countess also means there are a lot of dangerous moments at the end new eranot least the scene where Carson quotes Shakespeare in a touching monologue about Mrs. Violet, which we’re told was “nice” to do on screen.
Carson and Lady Violet had some kind of old soldier, they went through the trenches together, and they kind of have a history. So, it was great that the impact of her death kind of passed on to Carson. And Julian was pretty good throughout the whole series. People of this generation, who knew things, knew reams of poetry by heart, could quote broad passages of poetry, Shakespeare and things like that in a way that we cannot do these days; It was part of the education. So I think it was cleverly done and well done to show the effect of her passing on one man downstairs who knew her best. I’ve known her longer, at least. It was good to do so.
if Downton Abbey: A New Era It ended up being the last movie in the franchise, it was decided to end on a more positive note, and while Simon Curtis’s opinion here matters a lot more than mine, I feel the movie really sticks to the bottom with the ending it’s settled on.
