Nikola Jokic has signed an NBA record Supermax contract with the Nuggets. Fans and analysts alike can only celebrate the two-time MVP award.
With the NBA free agency officially taking off, one of the first things to emerge was that super players were getting involved in Supermax deals. Among that group was Denver Nuggets massive and NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic.
While Devin Booker and Bradley Beal joined Jokic in getting their money, the Denver star was on his own chapter in NBA history for the characters tied to his deal.
Shams Al-Sharaniah of Athletic Club and Stadium revealed the news of the contract extension and stated that Djokic signs a five-year contract worth $264 million, making it the richest contract in the history of the league.
There is also a player option for the 2027-28 season, worth a staggering $60 million for Djokic if he signs up.
Nikola Jokic signs Supermax with Nuggets: NBA Twitter celebrates
Given what Jokic has done individually over the past few seasons, NBA Twitter had no choice but to pay tribute to the big man for the biggest bag in league history.
That’s, in fact, a lot of bucks, and if he chooses, there are plenty of Quesaritos from Taco Bell.
Denver isn’t finished yet as they also added DeAndre Jordan with the senior veteran agreeing to a deal to head to Mile High City on Thursday as well.
However, Jokic will remain a focus for the foreseeable future, as he should. His numbers and performance on the way to winning two consecutive Best Performance Awards were truly amazing. And now he will continue to do so as a much richer man.
