Xbox Stealth Edition surprises fans with a former Nintendo 3DS exclusive

Xbox users across the Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X just got a stealth version, and the game in question is a former Nintendo 3DS exclusive. Xbox consoles often don’t get a stealth release, with the majority of surprise releases coming the way for the Nintendo Switch, or sometimes even the way for PlayStation gamers. This time though, it’s Xbox gamers who get the stealth version, courtesy of Inti Creates.

If you are using a current generation Xbox or a last generation Xbox, you can now buy, for $14.99in the Microsoft Store, Azure Striker Gunvolta game that debuted in 2014. More specifically, the side-scrolling 2D action platformer – better known as Armed blue: Gunvolt In Japan – debuted on August 20, 2024, but only in Japan. Nine days later it reached North America, before hitting Europe the following year. Upon release, the game was exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS, although Nintendo was not involved in its release. In the following years, it came to the PC, then the Nintendo Switch, and finally PS4 in 2020. And now it’s available on both generations of Xbox consoles.

Upon release, the game — which legendary developer Keiji Inafune worked on as executive producer — earned a score of 77 on Metacritic. Its user rating score on the platform was very similar to that, coming in at 8.1. Below, you can read more about the game, courtesy of an official teaser straight from Inti Creates. And under this, you can check out the original Nintendo 3DS demo of the game as no new one was made available alongside the Xbox version.

Azure Striker Gunvolt is a 2D action game that features star creator Keiji Inafune as the executive producer and supervising actions. Through the “barrier” power of creating and dealing with lightning, Gunvolt encounters a massive group known as the Sumeragi Group. Fierce battles unfold against the powerful henchmen of Sumaragi (those who possess barrier powers) as Gunvolt fights to keep his nation free.”
