The briefcase for the 2022 competition hasn’t been revealed, but it should be at least as large as it was in 2021, which totaled $40,000.

To win the event on the men’s and women’s sides respectively, Chestnut and Michelle Lesco each received $10,000. 2nd place winners each received $5,000, 3rd place $2,500, 4th place $1,500, and 5th place winners landed $1,000 each.

Chestnut set a new world record by dropping 76 hot dogs and buns during last year’s competition. Lesco finished 30.75 to take Nathan’s first win, although she lost 32 in 2017 when she finished second.

Coney Island will once again host the iconic event at Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs. Chestnut is heavily favored for his 15th championship while Miki Sudou is the favorite on the women’s team after returning from a year-long absence due to pregnancy.

The money that both Chestnut and Sudo made in competition is certainly not something to be scoffed at, although it doesn’t quite change life for what they put into their bodies.
