Probably the most interesting aspect of this patent is that it indicates that Sony could look to make these earlier peripherals compatible with PS5 for the purpose of PS3 emulation. At this time, PS5 is not backward compatible with PS3 and games from that era can only be played on devices via PlayStation Plus-linked streaming. However, we’ve heard in the past that Sony could still consider giving the PS5 the ability to play PS3 games natively someday.
