The upcoming Battlefield campaign will be supported by Halo Co-Creator

Well-known publisher Electronic Arts (EA) opened to the public job posting for the position of Design Director, in what they call “Battlefield Seattle Studio”. Here, it is stated that the team is “focused on building rich and exciting stories with unforgettable characters and powerful experiences all set in the Battlefield universe.” Furthermore, when explaining the role overview, it is stated more directly that they would “manage the design team and design a vision for a new Battlefield campaign.”

Although little is known about this Seattle team, in October 2021 Marcus Leto, co-founder of the Halo franchise and artistic director of the original trilogy, chirp He will join EA as game director for a new studio in Seattle that will work on first-person games. Over time, it became clear exactly what this studio would do.

Battlefield, EA’s primary FPS franchise, has been a big player in the genre since its inception in 2002. It has had many solid titles loved by fans over the years. Its players often praise the series’ large-scale battles, with the high player count and vehicle battles simulating real wars better. But recently, the series has been in a hot state due to its latest release, Battlefield 2042, which was launched in such a buggy state and was deemed unplayable by many.

It’s also a coincidence that 2042 didn’t have a campaign, only multiplayer modes, a decision that was heavily criticized. Given this, it’s good to see EA make a conscious effort to get the single player back into the series. Whether this project will be some future downloadable content for 2042 or part of an entirely new Battlefield game is not yet clear, but it is interesting for them to dedicate the campaign to a separate studio.

The Swedish studio DICE created the Battlefield series and was generally the lead developer behind the series. However, with 2042’s obvious bugs, letting DICE focus solely on multiplayer while another team is working on the campaign could be beneficial for the final product.

As the Seattle studio is looking for a design director, this story mode is clearly still in pre-production, and therefore not close to complete, but it’s still exciting. Designed by Bungie, the first three Halo games are three of the most popular first-person shooter games of all time. This is partly due to the multiplayer of course, but the campaigns can be nothing short of a sale. Although Lehto is a game director specifically, not an art director, his presence could do wonders for Battlefield visuals and the quality of their future campaigns in general.
