Liam Hendrix closest to the Chicago White Sox called for stricter gun control after a mass shooting at the July 4 parade in Highland Park, Illinois.
Sadly, it is yet another day in the United States where there has been a mass shooting that has killed innocent civilians. At the Fourth of July Parade in Highland Park, a gunman opened fire on the crowd, As a result, at least six people were killed and 30 others injured.
Ahead of the team’s game against the Minnesota Twins, Liam Hendrix closest to the Chicago White Sox spoke with the media, calling for stricter gun control after the tragedy. You can listen to Hendrix’s comments below, courtesy of Slavko Bikovic of NBC Chicago.
“I think access to weapons that are kind of used on these things is..something that needs to change,” Hendricks said, free Chicago Sun Times. “Something has to be done. Something has to happen because there are a lot of people losing their lives and not just people who have lost their lives. The families of that, the tragedy they are going through, the whole community when people are worried about leaving the house, they worry about doing the everyday things to go to work or any number of these things.
“We really need to think about what’s going on.”

As we heard in the video above, Hendrix spoke about gun culture in America, giving an example of how as a non-American it is possible to walk into a store to buy a gun in certain states. That, and buying a gun will not require a test, while getting a driver’s license does.
“That’s what America is known for,” Hendricks said. Chicago Sun Times. “They are known to be superior…there are a lot of good things here but you look at the negatives and they are complete…I can walk into a store as a non-American and buy a handgun in certain states. It baffles me. I had to take a test drive when I was here. I wouldn’t have to Take a test if I want to have a weapon. This is stupid. Whoever thought this was a great idea is an idiot.”
Hendrix is the latest athlete to speak up in support of gun control. After the May 24 shooting at Robb Elementary School, which killed 19 children and two teachers, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Borough, Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young, and Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr were pushed out.
White Sox issued a statement After the shooting, he said that after consulting the MLB, they would hold their game as scheduled. But in response to the tragedy, the White Sox announced that they canceled their post-match fireworks celebration.
As of this writing, the person involved in the shooting has not been arrested.
