Nintendo bans more naughty words on the Switch

In a recent firmware update for the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch OLED, Nintendo has expanded the list of swear words, which is, it seems, a list of words that can’t be used on the platform because they are naughty. And by “cannot be used”, we do not mean that you will be banned if you use them; We literally mean it can’t be used. What new words can not be said? Unfortunately, Nintendo doesn’t provide any details and neither do the data workers who discovered the add-ons while combing through update files.

Word of change comes the way OatmealDome over Twitter, a prominent data maker at Nintendo, who noted that there was a “large amount” of additions, including racial slurs and references to terrorist organizations.

“The only changes are on the bad word list,” OatmealDome says on Twitter. “A great deal of insults, racist slurs, sexualized words, references to terrorist organizations, etc. have been added to all languages.”

At the time of publication, Nintendo hasn’t said any peek at any of this. At this point, we don’t expect this to change as the update is a bit outdated. Furthermore, if they want to provide information about the words that have been added to the list, that information will be posted along with the update patch notes. However, if Nintendo exceeds expectations and makes a comment, we’ll be sure to update the story accordingly.
