PlayStation job listing is good news for PS3 fans

The list of new PlayStation jobs is good news for PS3 fans. Currently, PS Plus Premium, PS4 and PS5 users can access PS3, PS2, PS1 and PSP games. So far, there are no PS Vita games, and unlike PS2, PS1 and PSP games, which all run via emulation, only PS3 games are streamed. This is a problem, as it means that the only way to play PS3 games on modern PlayStation consoles is to lag. And if you have bad internet, forget about playing with it at all. Why only PS3 games are streamed? Well, Sony can’t figure out PS3 emulation, primarily because PS3 emulation is a huge challenge not just because of the console’s unique architecture, but because of all the ways the developers have found unique ways around this architecture that have to be taken into account. All that said, the new job listing seems to confirm it’s an issue that Sony is actively working to address.

is over linkedin, PlayStation is hiring a Software Development Engineer who will “develop new emulators”. Of course, no word on the PS3 directly, but this is the only “new emulator” that really needs to be developed at this point.

“Our Software Development Engineer position works on the tools and technology team at PlayStation Studios to support the newly relaunched ‘Classics’ for PS4 and PS5,” the job posting reads. “Classic games are powered by emulation of legacy PlayStation platforms. As a Classic Engineer, you will work closely with a group of engineers, producers, and QA teams to fix bugs, add new features, and develop new emulators.”

There is nothing else interesting in the job listing. Of course, there is no guarantee that this will pay off for those looking to actually play PS3 games on PS4 and PS5 without the need for streaming. However, the points are there to connect. Furthermore, there have been a variety of recent rumors claiming that PlayStation is emulating PS3.
