Another season Sparkle It came and went, and the storylines (including Diggle’s long-running story) concluded. However, some may still be wondering why Candice Patton missed some episodes during Season 8. It was a head-scratcher, but the actress provided insight into her absences. And as you might expect, COVID played a role.
Via social media, lovers Sparkle Note the fact that Candice Patton’s Iris West-Allen was absent for four consecutive episodes towards the end of Season 8. Within the narrative, it is made clear that the character was dealing with her own temporal illness. But recently, Patton revealed her Instagram stories, via TVLineHer necklace is designed in a way that allows her to appear in fewer episodes. This was basically a safe thing to do in case the borders between the US (where you live) and Canada (where the show’s films are) closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the post, the actress also explained that from the jump, she was “more than happy” to appear in more episodes if the situation remained stable (which it did). However, the network chose not to exercise this option in the deal, which means that things will remain as they are.
It’s a little disappointing frankly that things went the way they did. With so much of Season 8 focused on Eris and her growing illness with time, one would have thought something like this would take center stage in the season’s final episodes. On the bright side, though, fans will be seeing more of Iris West-Allen in Season 9, as Patton’s return for the next season has been confirmed, which will premiere mid-season on The CW.
The Season 8 finale not only solved Eris’ illness but also featured a major development that seemed to have the reverse flash wiped out once and for all. The episode was written as a Caper series, so there seems to be a bit of an ending to the proceedings. As of now, there’s no telling what awaits us in Season 9, although I hope Eris gets some reprieve after all she’s been through.
The only thing that is known is that Season 9 will include a big bad comeback. The penultimate episodes of season 8 sparked the return of Ramsay Russo, a.k.a. Bloodwork, via a comic book — a reveal that was pretty on brand for the DC Comics show. The Flash team certainly has a serious weight on its shoulders with Reverse-Flash seemingly gone, but you can bet Rosso will shake things up in the worst possible way.
It is currently unknown if Season 9 will be SparkleThe latter, but since the finale of Season 8 is planned as the final episode, producers may be looking to finish things off for sure next year. It would be such a bittersweet thing, but the idea is made better by the fact that Candice Patton will actually still be (and hopefully) in more episodes.
