Marvel presents the first gay Spider-Man

Marvel Comics developed characters that changed the pop culture landscape, creating costumed heroes that helped legions of viewers feel like actors and spectators. Many of these characters have come from the Spider-Man-related corner of the Marvel mythos, and it looks like the franchise is on the cusp of making history with a new LGBTQ+ Spider-Man. Marvel recently revealed details edge spider verse #5, the September issue of the upcoming biggest crossover event end of spider verse. The Edge of Spider-Verse has already made headlines for introducing new forms of Spider-Man — and in version 5, which will include Web-Weaver, dubbed as the first gay Spider-Man.

Created by Steve Foxe and Kris Anka, Web-Weaver is described as a “non-moderate Van Dyne stylist” who will “show us a completely different kind of Spider-Slayer” once he gets the power. While details surrounding the Spider-Slayer’s civilian identity remain a mystery, Foxe took to Twitter to tease that the character would be a unique move in terms of representing LGBTQ+.

Fox wrote, “Something I immediately realized when imagining Webb and Weaver was that he cannot – and should not – represent all gay men.” “No character can be alone. His fearless female identity is central to his character, but it’s not the story…that you can experience for yourself in September!”

Anka also took to Twitter to share the Web-Weaver builds, which you can check out below.
