Jimmy Jam was born as James Samuel Harris III on June 6, 1959 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His father is a blues and jazz musician Cornbread Harris. While attending the Upward Bound program on the University of Minnesota campus as a high school student, Jimmy Jam met Terry Lewis.
Flyte Time / Time / Original 7ven
In the early 1970s, Jam and Lewis became part of the Minneapolis R&B funk band Flyte Tyme, which later evolved into Time in the early 1980s. Jam played the keyboards while Lewis played the bass. The Time released their first self-titled album in 1981. With the band, Jam and Lewis continued to record the albums What is it? and “Hoopla”. After The Time was renamed Original 7ven in 2011, the band released the album “Condensate”.
The beginning of a production career
While they were still performing with Time, Jam and Lewis were introduced to music executive Dina R. Andrews, who worked for SOLAR Records. They were then introduced to music executive Clarence Avant, for whom they produced their first masters of the band SOS. In 1983, Jam & Lewis had their first major hit with the SOS band’s song “Just Be Good to Me,” which they wrote and produced. The duo went on to find success through their own company, Flyte Tyme Productions, which produced for artists such as Alexander O’Neal, Change, and Cherrelle.

Lake Minnetonka House
In 1987, Jimmy Jam paid $420,000 for a 3.5-acre plot on the shores of Lake Minnetonka in Minnesota. He proceeded to design and build a 22,600-square-foot home along the nearly 300-foot-tall shore of the lake. The house has a garage for 12 cars, a two-story master suite, a 14-seat movie theater and much more.
After moving to Los Angeles full time in 2005, Jimmy listed the house, or $11 million. In June 2007 before $7 million. Soon the next owner ran into financial problems and the property defaulted. By September 2008, a bank seized the house which quickly put it back on the market at an asking price of $4.5 million. The home was eventually sold at a foreclosure auction for $2.6 million. Thousand Oaks Palace
In 2003, Jamie paid $7.05 million for a mansion in Thousand Oaks, California. The 20-acre property includes a 17,000-square-foot mansion and a 2,500-square-foot guest house. Apparently Jamie sold this mansion in 2010 for $5.5 million.
