Metallica ‘Duets’ with Eddie for ‘Stranger Things’ in TikTok video

Metallica goes to great lengths to embrace the use of the band’s music in the “Stranger Things” season finale. The veteran band posted a new video on TikTok featuring the four members “duet” with Eddie’s character on the show “Master of Puppets,” the 1986 song that’s key to the series’ climaxing moment.

On the left side of the 1-minute split-screen video, the four Metallica members perform an audio rendition of the track in the rehearsal space, while on the right, footage from the “Stranger Things” scene in which Eddie Monson (Joseph Quinn) plays metal is played. The classic on his guitar at Upside Down to distract Demopotes and save his friends.

The group’s TikTok video was forwarded on social media by Netflix, who wrote that – apparently as a company – “I’m currently losing my mind due to Metallica’s duet with Eddie Monson on Master of Puppets!”

There’s a certain degree of meta to all of this: While the actor who plays Eddie, Joseph Quinn, already learned to play “Master of Puppets” to convincingly perform the on-screen track, the show’s credits revealed Tye Trujillo—the son of Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo. – He was responsible for the “extra guitar tracks” in the scene.

Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett wrote: “So proud of my little brother Tye Trujillo who took the lead on ‘Master of Puppets’ on Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things’ — and he’s not a guitarist but a bass player like a pop!!” wrote older Trujillo, **Spoiler alert** This is my son! Proud Tay! ‘Stranger Things’ finale ripped it off on ‘Master of Puppets’ and a big thanks to Kirk Hammett for the help!

Earlier, Metallica expressed their enthusiasm for the song’s eventual use in social media statements. “The way The Duffer Brothers incorporate music into ‘Stranger Things’ has always been next level, so we were very excited for them to not only include ‘Master of Puppets’ in the show, but to build such a pivotal scene around it,” the group wrote. We were all amazed to see the end result and when we did, we were absolutely stunned…it was done so well, that some people were able to guess the song just by seeing a few seconds of Joseph Quinn’s hands in a tractor! How cool is this? “
