Does the MLB need Giancarlo Stanton for the Derby Home Run?

New York Yankees player Giancarlo Stanton has revealed that he is ready to participate in the 2022 MLB Home Run Derby.

The start of the 2022 MLB All-Star Game was revealed on July 8, and there will be some big hitters on the MLS team. New York Yankees star Aaron Judge already snatched a spot by garnering the most fan votes, but he’s now joined by fellow batsman Giancarlo Stanton, who defeated finalist George Springer to be named the key left player.

He’s already in the All-Star Game, but will he be in the Home Run Derby at Dodger Stadium? After the Yankees’ game against the Boston Red Sox, Stanton said that while nothing was official, “it definitely could be there.”

Does Giancarlo Stanton need to participate in the Home Run Derby?

Does the MLB need Stanton in the Home Run Derby? Well, the more powerful the stars, the better. Anything to avoid the NBA dilemma with the slam dunk contest, which has become uninteresting in recent years.

Stanton is no stranger to participating in the Home Run Derby, having been a participant three times. He was eliminated in the third round of the 2014 tournament by Todd Frazier. In 2016, Stanton won the Derby after hitting 20 home runs versus Fraser’s 13 in the finals. He went on to defend his title the following year, hitting 16 Homers in the opening round. The problem was, then-Mask Yankees and future teammate Gary Sanchez hit 17 to lead.

Yankees fans may be wary of Stanton’s participation in the Home Run Derby after the judge suffered a slump and dealt with a shoulder injury. But you never know what will happen. Take a look at the numbers that Stanton put out after All-Star Week 2017.

With the Home Run Derby kicking off on Monday, July 18, it’s only a matter of time for the MLB to announce who will take part in the event. Keep your eyes open on Stanton, because he says he’s interested.
