The Undertaker reveals why he included ‘Never Say Never’ in his WWE Hall of Fame speech

The Undertaker had one of the longest-running and most accomplished wrestling careers ever, and at WrestleMania 38 Venom was finally inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. The Undertaker gave an emotional and insightful speech during the ceremony, and while he had previously left his shoes and hat in the ring, he finished his speech by saying “Never say never” and came out to a big applause, leaving the door very slightly behind. Open he can go back. In a new interview with Ovarian Reportaddressed the statement and why he did it, revealing that it was also a bit too much for Vince McMahon.

“The fact that you asked that question, you got the job done,” Undertaker said. “You never say never. I don’t have aspirations to get into the ring again, but this is WWE, man. You never say never. You never say never. I thought it was a cool button I could put on that and for that very reason. That was a little bit. For Vince, too.”

While Undertaker isn’t planning on returning to the ring anytime in the near future, the fact that he’s always technically possible is intriguing, so yes, mission accomplished. Undertaker also spoke in his letter thanking people like Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Brian Adams and others, but some noted he didn’t mention Mick Foley, and Undertaker listened to the criticism.

“I gave the speech and got everything I wanted to say,” Undertaker said. ‘I’ve had quite a bit of negative feedback for not mentioning two people, but it wasn’t about… if you go through every corner, every opponent… it was more about those three pillars I mentioned when I mentioned ’em talking about Shawn [Michaels], had a direct meaning that the content should not be absolute. That’s why I talk so much about Sean, Triple H, I get a little bit of, “I can’t believe you didn’t mention Mick Foley.” You talked about Mick Foley until it went blue in the nostrils.”

“I love Mick Foley,” Undertaker said. “I think what we’ve done will stand the test of time as far as our angle. But then I can talk about Edge etc. I haven’t spoken to any of these guys. I hope they won’t hurt their feelings, but it wasn’t all about it. It was about my trip. And the things I’ve learned during those 30+ years that I’ve been trying to share and help people in their lives and I thank the WWE Universe. That’s what it was all about. If anyone feels offended, I’m sorry.”
