Jon Hamm’s Fletch Reboot Gets Release Date On Showtime

It’s been nearly two years since news of Jon Hamm’s starring in the Fletch reboot was confirmed to the world, and a recent update reveals when the movie will finally reach audiences. As I mentioned for the first time before Limit, production company Miramax has licensed the global distribution rights to the film to Paramount Global Content Distribution. Their plan to release the film will include limited theatrical participation along with a video-on-demand premiere beginning September 16, and the film will then premiere on the premium cable network Showtime on October 28. “I am very excited to continue telling Irwin Fletcher’s story,” Hamm said in a statement. “But please don’t call him Irwin. I can’t wait for people to see what I hope will be the first part of a great Gregory MacDonald series of detective novels. From the original movie, it’s an honor and a pleasure to bring it Fletch Homecoming, with all its scribbling and off-center but somewhat clever and sophisticated, messy, funny, Paramount glory.”

In the Admit it, Fletch In his book, Fletch finds himself as a prime suspect in a series of mysterious murders. While trying to prove his innocence, Fletch will also need to find his fiancée’s stolen art collection, which she obtained after he lost her father and is presumed dead. Hamm stars in the new movie alongside Marcia Gay Harden, Kyle MacLachlan, Annie Momolo, Lorenza Izu, Aiden Maire and Roy Wood Jr.

As fans will likely remember, Fletch was previously brought to life in two feature films that starred Chevy Chase as the title character. Both Fletch (1985) and Fletch Lives (1989) were modest successes upon release but the character has remained dormant ever since. Attempts have been made over the past three decades to revive the series, but the upcoming movie is the only one that has been successfully completed. For many years, director Kevin Smith has been linked with making a new movie, previously considering Jason Lee and Ben Affleck for the role, with Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence and star Zach Braff at another point.
