Billy Corgan Hosts Concert for Highland Park Victims

Billy Corgan, best known as the leader of the alternative rock band Smashing Pumpkins, will host a helpful concert for the victims of the recent shooting incident in Highland Park.

Corgan, a Highland Park resident for more than 20 years, announced the concert on Instagram in a post shared to the accounts of Smashing Pumpkins and Madame Zuzu’s tea shop, a local Highland Park company he founded in 2020 with partner Chloe Mendel. In the video, which was recorded with Mendel outside Madame Zuzu, Corgan said that a special charity fundraising event for the Fourth of July Victims Response Fund will take place on July 27.

“About a week ago last July 4th, we witnessed a terrible tragedy here in Highland Park that took so many lives, injured so many people and really affected so many of us as a community,” Corgan said. “So what we wanted to do on the evening of July 27, is we’re going to have a very special charity party.”

The July 4 shooting occurred during the annual Independence Day Parade in suburban Chicago, Illinois. Seven people were killed, and more than 40 people were injured during the event.

According to Corgan’s video, the ceremony will be streamed live on Youtube for free, where viewers will be able to make charitable donations through the platform. In addition, Corgan said that “special guests” will appear at the concert, including current Smashing Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlain and other members of the band, and that more details will be announced in the coming days.

“We really appreciate you guys joining us at this moment and helping us support those with unmet needs right now,” Mendel said in the video. Victims and families really need help.”
