Julia Roberts will receive the Academy Museum Icon Award from the Academy this fall. The Academy Award-winning actress will receive her award at the museum’s second annual Gala on October 15.
Roberts joins three previously announced honorees at the ceremony: Mickey Lee, who will receive the Pillar Award; Tilda Swinton, recipient of the Visionary Award; and Steve McQueen, who will receive the Vantage Prize. The event, sponsored by Rolex, will be co-chaired by Halle Berry, Jason Bloom, Lupita Nyong’o and Ryan Murphy.
“Throughout her career, Julia has embodied iconic characters and unforgettable roles,” Jacqueline Stewart, Academy President and Academy Director, said in a statement. “We are delighted to continue honoring her industry excellence and contribution to the arts. We are so grateful to Julia, Mickey, Steve, Tilda, Rolex, and our co-chairs and committees for making our second annual gala an unforgettable evening.”
In addition, the Academy Museum has announced the members of its 2022 event hosting committee, which includes such notable names as Adrien Brody, Amanda Seyfried, Ariana DeBose, Awkwafina, Billie Lourd, Bryce Dallas Howard, Chloë Sevigny, Colman Domingo, Cynthia Erivo, Dakota Johnson, Darren Chris, Eddie Redmayne, Eza Gonzalez, Elle Fanning, Emma Roberts, George C. The celebration aims to raise funds for museum access, education and programming initiatives. The opening ceremony in 2021 raised more than $11 million. The event will be overseen by Creative Director Lisa Love and Artistic Director Raúl Avila.
