Netflix vampire It has now been launched and although it is not based on any of the games, it is related to the games. vampire It is essentially a sequel to a group of games, albeit relatively selective about which games you choose to opt out of. This is mostly due to the fact that Albert Wesker is alive in the series and “died” in it Resident Evil 5. It’s hard for the series to lean on too hard Resident Evil Village Or something more recent since Wesker wasn’t involved with it, even if Umbrella in general has some connection to every game in the main series. With all that said, for those who haven’t played games or need a little activation, we’ve tried to figure out how the Netflix series connects to and reconnects with games.
The biggest plot point, aside from Albert Wesker being fine after all these years, is what happened in Raccoon City. The TV series is set in an idyllic city called “New Raccoon City”. It is basically an embodiment of “What would society look like if…” which presents an image of an idealized futuristic city. New Raccoon City is located in South Africa and is a far cry from the original city that was blown off the face of the earth, but this is not public knowledge as it was a gigantic disaster. Raccoon City was basically ground zero for the Resident Evil universe and was the setting for the first three Resident Evil games (although the first game was more on the outskirts of town).
In the end, Umbrella was responsible for spreading a virus in the city, creating monsters and zombies. It was meant to be contained by destroying the city, but there are clearly more Resident Evil games and now a TV show, so the problem remains. For most of the characters on the show, they were told that Raccoon City had been destroyed by a major gas leak and there was nothing other than that. Of course, Jade and Billie found out that this was a big cover later, but that’s not the only big revelation.
In episode five, the two sisters check into their home while Albert Wesker goes to try and find clues about what’s really going on. After finding a secret basement, they discover a video of their father in a traditional Albert Wesker costume in a prison with an umbrella agent. His existence is then revealed to see Lisa Trevor, the tragic and iconic character from the first game. She is kidnapped along with her mother and forcefully tempted by Umbrella, resulting in her mother’s death. Lisa’s reaction to the virus strain gave her superhuman strength, but further experiments caused her to deteriorate. I eventually started tearing up faces and collecting them, not unlike someone like Leatherface. It’s possible that the footage seen on the Netflix series is just another example of Umbrella testing things out on poor Lisa.
Albert eventually catches Jade and Billie in his secret lab and begins steadily revealing information to them and the public. By the end of the series, it was revealed that the Albert Wesker we’re following isn’t technically the person we’ve seen in games… he’s a replica! What a twist! This part is new to the Resident Evil lore, so we won’t go into it here, but the “real” Albert Wesker burned alive in a volcano at the end of the day. Resident Evil 5. He dies in a fight with Chris Redfield and Shiva Almawar after exposing himself to Uroboros, a new viral strain.
Other links that are really important to games, apart from some Easter eggs Resident Evil 4Chainsaw man who appears, are the main characters that are referenced. Ada Wong is the highlight as Albert sends his kids to see her in Japan at the end of this season. It is not clear who will play her or how she will play, but she is a spy and out of various games. It’s often the one that ties the loose ends, sheds more light on some of the games’ mysteries and intrigues, and is a general badass. If season 2 of vampire Happens, it’s likely that it will be prominent.
Dr. William Birkin is also mentioned at a few points in the show and he’s basically the one we can thank for…everything, really. Apart from Umbrella as a public entity, he is responsible for the Raccoon City outbreak in which he injected himself with the G-Virus and became a mutated monster while breaking the T-Virus vials, releasing it on mice and the water supply, causing a major outbreak.
Finally, Evelyn Marcus’ father, James Marcus, is frequently mentioned as an authority figure in Umbrella. Marcus is one of the co-founders of Umbrella, but was essentially ousted and erased from the company’s history after he took things too far in his experiments. It sure is a bit ironic considering where Umbrella and the state of the world ended after James Marcus.
With all that said, vampire It has a lot of callbacks and links for games although on the surface it looks like it’s completely unrelated. It remains to be seen whether or not the series will have the opportunity to move forward in expanding on these ideas. If this show gets multiple seasons, then series stars Chris Redfield and Leon Kennedy appear out of the question, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
