Matt Carpenter’s last home run, which cemented the Yankees’ lead, wasn’t a home run at 29 other stadiums.
Carpenter has been a massive story so far this season. After a short spell in Texas, the former St. Louis Cardinals star signed with the Yankees. Since making his way into the majors, Carpenter has been nothing short of amazing.
The multi-position star has 13 home runs in 30 games in Pinstripes. It cuts .365/.472/.946 so far in the Bronx. Comparisons to Babe Ruth are, of course, a joke, but it shows exactly what Carpenter means for this team going forward.
However, Carp’s latest home race is likely to irritate people in Boston, if only because they are looking for something to worry about. Carpenter’s 3-stroke shot to extend Yank’s lead – his second of the night – didn’t look like Homer on 29 of 30 golf courses. Thank you, short porch.

In his final season in St. Louis, Carpenter hit .169 in a relatively large sample size—130 games—and ran out of handlebars. The Cardinals cut him off, failing to make much of an impression in his short stint in Texas.
With that said, the All-Star was previously on the open market. Did anyone make the call besides New York?
apparently not.
“The thing that baffles me so much,” carpenter said“is that no one replied [except] The best team in baseball.”
Whether the lack of interest was justified or not, it’s safe to say that the signing took place from the New York point of view.
