warning! THE FOLLOWING CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR Thor: Love and Thunder. Read at your own risk!
Thor: Love and Thunder It’s the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, and it raises a lot of questions about the larger franchise. No, I’m not talking about the fact that there are similarities Between Korg’s husband and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson It cannot be ignored. I mean specific questions about Upcoming Marvel Movies In the rest of stage 4 and beyond.
a lot happens in Thor: Love and Thunder, some of which will undoubtedly influence the MCU’s larger story in the future. There are also some things it doesn’t address that in turn raise questions about what the MCU will bring in the coming years, and I’m here to talk about it.
How will Hercules and the other gods fit into the MCU’s grand story?
K Ted Lasso Fan, I was thrilled to see Brett Goldstein for the first time as Hercules in the MCU. At the same time, I have to wonder how deities coming to the MCU might affect the larger story in the future. I’m definitely keen to see what’s planned, as introducing more avatars into this franchise could unlock another previously untouched section of the Marvel universe.
Of course, we don’t know if all of the Marvel deities will be involved in the universe, and it’s possible that demigod Hercules is the only real plus we get. I hope not, and would absolutely love to see more of this explored in what remains in Phase 4 and the following phases.
Will the MCU start bringing back a bunch of dead characters?
Thor: Love and Thunder Jane Foster’s tragic final arc appeared in the MCU, but there is a happy ending to it. She’ll live in glory in Valhalla, and if MCU Valhalla handles the comics version, she can even return to Earth and fight as a Valkyrie. Hey, you’ve already taken the mantle of one of the heroes, so what’s the other?
However, I have to wonder if the MCU is committed to bringing back another dead character, is this a recurring trend we should expect to see? I’m not saying Marvel was wrong to bring back Gamora or 50% of the universe, but if ox Ready to leave the door open for Natalie Portman’s return, so where are the stakes when looking at the bigger picture? Does the MCU lose something when heroes never die or can be replaced by a variant of the multiverse?
Where is Kang?
It’s been a little over a year since then loki He Who Remains revealed, suggesting Kang the Conqueror has become the next big bad for the MCU. We still haven’t seen Kang appear in a Marvel movie, but little by little, the multiverse is slowly seeping into the movie world.
Well, at least that seems to be the case. Thor: Love and Thunder Kind of slow things down a bit, for better or worse. One can certainly see that it’s a good thing that the fourth Thor didn’t feel it owed it credit for providing the MCU story, but on the other hand, it seems like one of the few characters that was initially in the MCU should definitely be used as a way to prepare the universe ahead. It seems that this will not happen.
A year has passed and I have to ask: Where is Kang? Sure, we know it’s going to be a part of Ant-Man and the Wasp: QuantumaniaBut is that all we’ll beat in the next movie? Presumably, we’ll know the answer soon enough that Marvel teases its plans for the future, but I’d rather the company show me the plan in their movies than reassure me it’s coming.
Why doesn’t Thor: Love and Thunder feel connected to everything else?
Thor facing Gore The God Butcherer was a huge deal, especially considering he possessed a weapon capable of killing a god. Thor went to the other gods for help, but was shut down by Zeus and others, who preferred to stay safe and have an orgy rather than stop the murderous villain. Sadly, Thor went on trying to salvage the situation with only Valkyrie and Jane, feeling he had no options left.
However, Zeus gave Thor the solution in his long monologue critical of the human race. The Marvel universe contains heroes, many of whom were presumably available to help Thor in Gorr The God Butcherer. He could call Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy or even some new heroes, like Shang Chi, to help him fight him.
Thor: Love and Thunder We had plenty of opportunities to cross and create bridges between the Marvel franchises, however, what we got was a pretty much independent movie within the Thor universe. Sure, it would have been great to see Darcy Lewis and Eric Selfig, but imagine how effective someone who was so powerful would have been and was unable to kill with a God-killing sword.
The most worrying thing about Thor: Love and Thunder is that it features one of the most enduring characters in the MCU and feels largely disconnected from the rest of the universe. Even the Guardians part feels the story can’t move fast enough to remove them from the proceedings. It’s a bit frustrating for me to see, especially since connectivity is one of the main cool things in the MCU. Hopefully this trend will not continue and we see more meaningful crossovers in the future.
When does Avengers 5 come out?
One thing I wish Thor: Love and Thunder is to give fans an idea of how long we have to wait until the next day Avengers Movie. By the end of it all, Thor seems ready to take on his usual heroic duties despite the tragedy of losing Jane, but we’re not close to knowing when the group’s next advantage might be.
Now I say this knowing full well that we might get some kind of idea when Avengers 5 It will arrive during the Marvel panel at San Diego Comic-Con or later at D23. I’m grateful for any information we might receive, but at the same time, I’m wondering why there wasn’t some sort of roadmap to next group harassment shown in the Phase 4 films. It was great to see something similar to what Nick Fury did when he recruited all the Avengers or Thanos collected the Infinity Stones. Not every movie set needed this level of build, but in an age that seems like a simple MCU reset, it would have been a great idea. I’d always rather be informed about the future of Marvel movies than telling us about the next big saga for the MCU.
Thor: Love and Thunder It’s currently in cinemas and will eventually air Disney + (Opens in a new tab) later this year. For all the questions you asked me about Phase 4, it’s still a good movie, and definitely one that fans won’t want to miss.
