Lizzo’s tour doesn’t begin in the fall circuit until September 23rd, but she won’t let her new album “Special” be released on Friday without welcoming at least a few of them, and much more via livestream. Over the entire three-day weekend, New York’s Cipriani 25 was transformed into an LED dance house for “Lizzoverse,” the first night of which was devoted to an intimate listening party and live concert, where the singer performed all 12 songs from the new band. The opening night party/performance began with fans dancing to a playlist filled with Prince and Beyoncé that felt like Lizzo herself could have sponsored. The A proper performance began as the venue turned black, soon punctuated by tiny electronic stars projected onto the walls and ceiling as Lizzo’s robotic voice directed fans to “sit back, relax, and get ready to grab…Goodbye bitch.” Then the singer took the stage where she played the studio version of the opening track “The Sign”. Wearing a light pink embroidered floral jumpsuit, Lizzo delighted the small live audience by jumping and throwing leg kicks, while donning advertising belts.

About a hundred AmEx cardholders were able to join the opening night. Fans who couldn’t catch the listening party were able to join in on some fun the next two days of the install, which had several times over the weekend where fans were able to book spots and listen to the album together.
Lizzo ended the livestream by thanking her fans for staying strong for the past two years: “Thank you for staying alive; thank you for staying alive.”
