What happened in Chainsaw Man Chapter 98?

Chapter 98 of Chainsaw Man was titled “Birds and War,” and the opening was on a high school girl named Asa Mitaka.

Mitaka feels isolated from the rest of her classmates and often spends her free time watching them from afar, resenting them for how easy it is to go about their daily lives.

One day, her teacher Mr. Tanaka brought a demon chicken to the class and said that within 100 days, he would kill the class and eat the demon chicken (named Bucky) to teach them how precious life can be.

After nearly three months, Poké has become a season’s mascot and is loved by almost every member of the group…except for Mitaka, who repeatedly appears upset in Poké because the chicken is more famous than her.

Mitaka even argues with Mr. Tanaka over the point of rehearsing with Buki, as well as insulting modern society for how everyone interacts with the sawman. However, Tanaka reveals that Buki will not actually be killed, which seems to comfort Mitaka at first who said she is at school to study, not to make friends.

To her surprise, Boki jumped into Mitaka’s arms and called her by her name – which shocked the young student because only the class president and Mr. Tanaka know her name. With a sense of inspiration, Mitaka decided to join the game of football (soccer). Unfortunately, tragedy strikes when Mitaka falls and crushes Bucky on her chest – causing his internal organs to scatter across her school uniform.

She comes to school the next day to find herself more isolated from her classmates after she kills their spell, but the class leader and Mr. Tanaka invite her to visit Boki’s grave where she can ask for forgiveness.

On the way to the grave, the class chief begins to scold Mitaka and shockingly, turns into the Demon of Justice – revealing that she had “a thing” with Mr. Tanaka, but became jealous after he showed her special treatment.

The demon judge crushes Mitaka and leaves her to die with horrific wounds; However, Mitaka is at peace knowing that Baki’s death was not necessarily her fault. She even thinks of how if she had lived a less selfish life, she could have ended up with a boyfriend.

Just before her last breath, a demon appears above her and says that if Mitaka wants to live, her body will be her body. Her body convuls when she transforms into the Demon of War, when she kills both the class chief and Mr. Tanaka – making an arm grenade and a spine sword out of their corpses.

As you walk away from the disgusting scene you just created with the Demon of War, you see the image of the saw-man and vow to one day make him vomit nuclear weapons again…
