When she turned 12, Alina graduated from high school and enrolled in online classes at Arizona State University. Originally, Alina was planning to work with NASA, which she joined to study engineering, but eventually turned her interests to medicine, changing her major to biological sciences and continuing with online courses, including studying genetics and medical history this summer.

“I’ve had great coaches. I love the classes I’m in,” she said. “I like classes to be six or seven weeks and then move on to the next term. It can be very stressful, depending on what kind of class you take, but I love them.”

If all goes as planned for Alina, she will begin studies to become a doctor at age 15, in 2024, and graduate when she is 18 when the other kids her age are preparing for their first year of college.

Age is not a big problem

Despite her young age, she is highly focused and was reported to be one of the youngest people to be accepted into an American medical school. Alina said that age was “not a big deal” for her and that she was just a normal kid.

She explained, “I was in the choir of honor, I was in cheerleading, I played football. I hang out in the mall with my friends like a 13-year-old does, I go to the movies with my friends, I go swimming with my friends. I’m very organized and very disciplined.”

“Age, for me, is not a big deal.”
