After the ABC comedy received several Emmy nominations ahead of this year’s awards ceremony, viewers are eagerly awaiting Abbott ElementaryBack in the fall. Series creator and star Quinta Brunson has been busy crafting the sitcom’s second-year season, which is currently in production, although there isn’t much current information for fans to get excited about. Now, however, we have a lot to look forward to, as the network has announced that Abbott Elementary The second season will be bigger (and possibly better) than his Emmy-nominated debut season.
Limit It was reported that the latest and greatest development for Season 2 was revealed during Abbott ElementaryVirtual panel at San Diego Comic-Con. It was announced somewhat unexpectedly that the show’s second year season had already been given the order of a full 22-episode season. Executive Producer Patrick Shoemaker broke the news by confirming that there will be nine more episodes for the upcoming season compared to the first season’s 13 episodes during the mid-season schedule.
Quinta Bronson was initially reluctant to confirm the surprising news before revealing the full season order, saying:
Well, there you are. We have more episodes this season than we did in the first.
It was as if a weight had been lifted off Bronson’s shoulders. Abbott Elementary Viewers were begging for more episodes after the abridged first season, and now we’ve got our wish. Initially, the sitcom was renewed for another 13-episode season, so we already knew more was on the way. But given how popular and fan-friendly the show is, ABC officials expanded the order to a full season in June, though apparently the news wasn’t released to the public until the SDCC announcement.
Addressing the second expanded season, Bronson spoke more about what fans can expect next season. The comedian was ready for more episodes to have more fun with the faculty, staff, and students at the inner city school.
We spent a lot of season one showing what this show can do… now we’re getting to have some fun. We’ve done all of the building, and now we’re getting some of these fun bottle rings.
Bottle episodes are always fun for viewers, since limited settings and situations often lead to further character development, and no one would argue against everyone in this group getting time to shine. Perhaps there will be an episode that focuses on Gregory and Janine, or an episode that delves into Jacob and Zack’s home life. Actress Ava Coleman has given Janelle James hope that her character will remain as self-obsessed as ever. With so much still unknown, Bronson hinted at a possible cameo in the season two opening. So, there is definitely more to look forward to next season.
There is a lot of motivation to make the sophomore season even better than the acclaimed new season. The Primetime Emmys showed the teacher-centered comedy some well-deserved love on nomination day. James, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Tyler James Williams all scored goals to support the Emmy nominations, but Bronson’s nominations were more historic. The Abbott Elementary The star became the first black woman to win Best Actress, a Comedy Series (as Creator and Producer) as well as writing in a Comedy Film in a single year. So, the show not only connects with viewers but also connects with the TV industry. This is all a coincidence considering that the comedian almost gave up on TV and Hollywood in general.
Of course, among all this good news, the series has been hit by a copyright infringement lawsuit from a writer who claims that ABC and Brunson stole their idea. Don’t tell us how it will end, but it doesn’t seem to stop anyone from filming new episodes.
Things are already looking bright for the sitcom. Along with Emmy nominations, Abbott Elementary Season 2 premieres on Wednesday, September 21, at 9:00 p.m. If you’d like to keep track of the premiere dates of other returning shows, you can check out our 2022 TV schedule for more information.
